PRESCHOOL OF ROCK

Ages 3 through 6 years.

They rock, they roll, they read musical notation! They can also name the instruments of the orchestra! See them play at the summer recital. 

Studies by neurological scientists at the Universities of Wisconsin and California have shown music lessons significantly improve IQ scores of 3 and 4 year olds so we developed a program. Our Prelude program enables children as young as 3 years old to read and play music notation in positive, nurturing and fun filled classes of their peers. They experience the joy of self-expression and group participation. Being in a class makes learning music a joyful shared experience just as performing in a choir, symphony, or rock band. Private lessons begun too young can sometimes backfire, discouraging a child from music. This program prepares children with the skills and maintains their interest so they can succeed in private lessons later.

Curriculum includes “They Might Be Giants”, “Sister Sledge” and “The Beatles”. But it is not limited to Western Pop music. Mexican Mariachi, Hungarian and Jewish folk dance, Brazilian Bass nova, and Australian indigenous music is heard. The kids also jam along to Tibetan, Middle Eastern, and Indian dance music.

Certified teacher Tara Yando-Turley  is the teacher of these fun weekly classes. Along with director of Score Music, Kari Lee Fietek, Tara developed and employ the curriculum which has been entertaining kids and parents.for over 4 years. Kids get a comprehensive introduction to the basic elements of music. Parents get to hear them play favorites such as 70’s and 80’s rock music. The classes feature an introduction to the main orchestral instruments, classical notation, elements of rhythm and World music/culture. The curriculum is a marriage of Kari’s classical and rock  expertise and Tara’s extensive experience teaching young children.

Keyboard I & II is also taught by Tara Yando-Turley . Ownership of a keyboard or piano at home is required.

8-Week Summer Session 2008

Ages 3-4 years:

Melody I  Tues at 1:30 to 2:15pm

Melody I  Wed  at  10:00   to  10:45am

Ages 4-6 years:

Melody II Tues at  2:15  to  3:00pm

Melody II Wed  at   10:45  to 11:30am

Ages 6-7 years:

Keyboard I   4:00pm & 4:30pm   Thurs

Keyboard I   4:00pm & 4:30pm   Friday

Keyboard II (as arranged by teacher)

The8-week session runs July 8 through August 29. Please make checks to “SCORE Music” for $100 per student for any class. Register before and no refunds after June 27. Fall classes resume in October 2008.
